CRH sets dates for health screenings

Columbus Regional Heath is pleased to offer two upcoming opportunities for important health screenings.

On Nov. 9, Columbus Regional Health Breast Health Services will offer a free clinical breast screening event for those whose insurance does not cover breast screenings. Also, throughout November, the CRH Lung Care Team is offering low-dose lung scans to anyone who is eligible and hasn’t had a lung scan before.

Free Clinical Breast Screen

This year about 1 million Americans will develop breast cancer. If detected early, 95 percent of cases can be successfully treated. Columbus Regional Health is hosting a free clinical breast exam to detect possible breast cancer and to provide referrals for those who may need a follow-up mammogram.

Screenings will be conducted between 8 a.m. and noon at Columbus Regional Health General Surgery, 2325 18th St., Ste 220. Registration is required by calling 812-376-5136.

Should you be screened? If you are age 40 or older and answer “yes” to all of the following statements, you should register today for your free exam:

1) I have not had a breast exam or mammogram within the last 12 months.

2) I do not have health insurance or my insurance does not cover screenings.

3) I do not have a pre-existing breast condition

4) I have not been treated for breast cancer in the past five years.

If you are someone with dense breast tissue or a family history of breast cancer, we especially encourage you to consider a screening.

$25 First-Time Lung Scans

In conjunction with Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Columbus Regional Health is proud to offer reserved appointments for patients needing a first-time lung scan on Nov. 2, 9, 23, 29 and 30. Each scan is offered for $25 and will not be submitted to insurance. Payment will be collected at the time of the scan.

Eligibility for lung scan:

1) Are between 50 and 80 years old;

2) Have a history of heavy smoking (Heavy smoking means a smoking history of one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years)

3) Are either a current smoker or have quit within the past 15 years.

Individuals who have had a previous scan will be scheduled on another date.
