Indianapolis woman killed in Bartholomew County crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A two-vehicle accident at 9:45 a.m. Saturday on I-65 southbound in Bartholomew County claimed the life of an Indianapolis woman.

The initial investigation by Master Trooper Tommy Walker, Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, indicated a 2011 Honda CRV, being driven by Omotope G. Oyediran, 45, Indianapolis, was traveling southbound on I-65 near the 73-mile marker, approaching the I-65 rest park.  For an unknown reason, Oyediran’s vehicle left the west side of the roadway.  Her vehicle then traveled into the rest area where it struck a parked 2020 International semi pulling a loaded box trailer.

The occupant of the semi was in the sleeper berth at the time of the collision, and he was not injured. Oyediran sustained fatal injuries in the crash and she was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office.

Walker was assisted by additional troopers with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post and the ISP-Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.  The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist in reconstructing the crash.  The German Township Volunteer Fire Department, Columbus Regional Ambulance Service, the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office, and 31 Wrecker Service also assisted.

The crash remains under investigation.  Toxicology tests are pending at this time, state police said.
