Columbus police arrested a Nashville, Indiana man after he jumped into a rain-swollen creek to evade arrest, police said.
Winston C. Zink, 31, was arrested on charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement and a Bartholomew County warrant for failure to appear at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Columbus Police Officer Troy Love saw Zink working on a moped on the shoulder of the road in the 900 block of U.S. 31, Harris said. Love noted that Zink had a warrant for his arrest and stopped, where he determined the moped had been stolen, Harris said.
Zink fled on foot towards Clifty Creek and jumped into the swiftly-moving water, Harris said. Officers saw that Zink was struggling in the water and used a throw rope to rescue him.
