For the next three years, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. families can expect to see earlier ends scheduled for the school year — and fewer classes canceled due to ice and snow.
The BCSC school board has approved a three-year calendar for the school years 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. The most notable change is that rather than scheduling two weeks of spring break and using the first to make up snow days, the school corporation has decided to only schedule one week of spring break — and instead use eLearning on snow days.
“With everything that we’ve learned about eLearning, we are comfortable with saying if we have a snow make-up day in 2021-22, at those first five days we will do eLearning,” said Superintendent Jim Roberts. “After five, we’re not so comfortable anymore. We do need in-person.”
According to the approved calendar, snow days beyond the first five will be made up at the end of the school year. Roberts said that there is some time between the scheduled last day for students and each year’s graduation, which will give them some room if days need to be added on.
Another notable change is that fall break (which was Oct. 5-9 in 2020) will now be a week later.
Under the approved calendar, instruction will begin and end on the following days:
2021-2022: First student day, Aug. 6; last student day, May 20
2022-2023: First student day, Aug. 5; last student day, May 19
2023-2024: First student day, Aug. 4; last student day, May 20
Fall break will be on the following days:
2021-2022: Oct. 11-15
2022-2023: Oct. 10-14
2023-2024:Oct. 9-13
Winter break will be on the following days:
2021-2022: Dec. 23-Jan.5
2022-2023: Dec. 22-Jan. 4
2023-2024: Dec. 21-Jan. 4
Spring break will be on the following days:
2021-2022: March 14-18
2022-2023: March 13-17
2023-2024: March 11-15
Graduation is scheduled for the following days:
2021-2022: May 28
2022-2023: May 27
2023-2024: May 25
