Reece Fisher // Columbus East junior wrestler

Fisher won his first two matches by technical fall and edged Jeffersonville’s Jeremiah Cain 3-2 in the final to win the 132-pound weight class in Saturday’s Jeffersonville Regional and help lead the Olympians to the team title.

His performance last week: “I had a little bit of a crazy ending to my second match, and then I won my final by one point. It was kind of expected.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “We watch some film, especially in the postseason during the tournament.”

Favorite drink: “Orange juice.”

Favorite food: “I really like yogurt.”

Favorite class: “Physics”

Favorite sports team: “Indianapolis Colts”

Favorite athlete: “Reggie Wayne”

Role model: “My dad (Heath Fisher)”

Best advice: “Stay consistent, and you have to persevere sometimes. Life just throws curveballs.”

Athletics goal: “I want to place at state, maybe this year, maybe next year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Paris or somewhere out of the country because I’ve never been out of the country, and it’s a tourist destination.”

Barker led the Bull Dogs with 16 points in a 57-43 first-round win against Bloomington South, 12 points in Friday’s 52-26 win over Bloomington North and 18 points in Saturday’s 38-29 loss to East Central in the East Central Sectional final.

Her performance last week: “I gave it my all. Obviously, I have a very competitive personality, and I want to win. We didn’t come up with the win, but I’ll be working hard for next year for sure.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I normally try to watch film when I can. Sometimes, I’ll even type out some notes. Our coaches do a good job of giving us a scouting report. And I always pray before I play.”

Favorite drink: “Chocolate milk”

Favorite food: “Peanut butter”

Favorite class: “English”

Favorite sports team: “Kentucky”

Favorite athlete: “Russell Westbrook”

Role model: “My mom and dad (Ramona and Lance Barker)”

Best advice: “Don’t take sports for granted. We battled being quarantined for a month, and I know some other teams have been sidelined with contact tracing, and that was an eye-opener. It’s a blessing to be able to play.”

Athletics goal: “I would like to play in college wherever the opportunity arises, basketball or soccer, but probably basketball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Australia. I’ve just heard of how beautiful it is. I’ve heard the beaches are very pretty, and since I was a little girl, that’s where I’ve wanted to go, so that would be my dream place.”
