Susan Mae Schuyler

COLUMBUS

Susan Mae Schuyler, 79, passed away surrounded by love on Sunday, June 13th, 2021. Susan found her true calling as a loving mother, grandma, wife, sister, daughter and friend. She approached life with humor and grace, was an expert at sarcasm, and had an appreciation for life’s beauty. Her friends and family knew her as a good listener and one who was always quick with a laugh.

She loved her garden and could often be found on her front porch enjoying the company of friends and family. She was an avid reader who enjoyed coffee and books each morning. She expressed her artistic side through quilting and took pleasure donating her time and skill to making Christmas stockings for those in hospice care. When asked to volunteer, she seldom said no. She was a dedicated educator to her students at Parkside, Richards, and Southside elementary schools. She enjoyed socializing with her friends in the Flintwood Flairs, Psi Iota Xi, and at quilting retreats. Born in Michigan, she loved returning to South Haven for family vacations on the lake.

Susan is survived by her loyal and loving husband of 57 years, Larry Schuyler; daughters Rebecca and Amanda (Art) Slike; a son Ted (Brittany) Schuyler; grandchildren Skyler, Jay, Jillian, Elijah, and Vivia; and her sister Marsha Olson. She is preceded in death by her parents Neil and Sally VanStelle.

A public celebration of life visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Susan and Larry’s home, 3039 Revere Court, Columbus, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
