CARMEL
Col. Dennis Wayne Shepherd, USAF, Ret. 75, of Carmel, Indiana and formerly of Newport News, Virginia passed away June 19, 2021. He was born July 19, 1945, in Columbus, Indiana the son of the late Murnal Ellis and Mary Helen (Marsh) Shepherd.
Dennis honorably served in the United States Air Force for 27 years, attaining the rank of Colonel before his retirement in 1994. He was a proud graduate of the Air Force Institute of Technology and of the University of Notre Dame, where he received his Master of Arts degree in political science. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and baseball and was an avid fan of Notre Dame football.
He is survived by two children, Brian (Jenee) Shepherd and Jennifer (Jason) Rice; two stepchildren, Jill Gill and Russell (Anne) Belicek; seven grandchildren, Conor, Addison, Chloe, Lauren, Jacquelin, Quincy, and Haven; and two brothers, Jerry (Jayne) Shepherd and Tim Shepherd. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Patricia Shepherd in 2016.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. There will also be a visitation and interment that will be scheduled for Newport News, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
