Roy Lee Medaris

Roy Lee Medaris, 95, of Fuquay Varina, NC formerly of Columbus, passed from this life at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021, in Raleigh, NC.

Roy Lee Medaris married Emma Jean Fleetwood February 14, 1947, and were married 58 years until her passing August 5, 2005.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nellie Krebbs-Medaris; two sisters and their husbands, Mae Myers (Calvin) and Pauline Richardson (Paul).

He served in the military during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge on December 5, 1946, from Mason General Hospital in Brentwood New York. He served as a surgical tech in the military hospital during the war. He received the WWII Victory Medal upon his departure from the military.

He attended Indiana Mortuary College and started his career with Barkes & Inlow Funeral Home in Columbus, Indiana. Upon the birth of his second child decided to make a career change and went into construction. He was a builder, developer, and landowner in Columbus and the surrounding area for the rest of his career.

He helped build churches both in the Indiana and in Guatemala, where he and his wife, Jean spent much time with loved ones on the missions’ field in Guatemala and Mexico. His heart was to help those in need, support missionaries and he took his final mission trip to Guatemala in 2011 at the age of 85. He gave his final altar call at a tiny mission in the town of Antigua with family members present. This was a joy to behold!

Roy was a longtime member at the World of Pentecost. After Jean’s passing, he split his time with his children attending church at Cornerstone Church in Fuquay Varina, NC and during frequent visits to Indiana, The Pentecostals of Nashville.

Roy and Jean were blessed with four children, Timothy (Connie) Medaris, Roger (Tammy) Medaris, Karen (Chris) Culp and Randy (Kim) Medaris; 9 grandchildren, Dusty (Randy Blackburn), Jenny (Kevin Waltz), Sunny (Lee Stephenson), Devin Medaris, Shane Medaris, Cory Lawson (Anne), Waylon Medaris (Jamie), Kyle Medaris (Miriam) and Ashley Culp; 19 great-grandchildren, Dustin Blackburn (Jordan), Caleb Blackburn (Mallory), Cody Blackburn (Chloe), Connor Blackburn (Kaitlin), MacKenzie Grimm (Kyle), Mason Waltz, Maveric Waltz, McKartney Waltz, Mia Waltz, Keaton Stephenson, Kolbi Stephenson, Taylor Medaris, Madelyn Medaris, Hudson Medaris, Eliza Medaris, Miles Medaris , Jameason Medaris, Kris Lawson and Kassi Lawson; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Easton Blackburn, Greyson Blackburn, Nova Blu Blackburn, Knox Blackburn, Jackson Blackburn, Prewitt Blackburn.

The funeral will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at The Pentecostals of Nashville with the Rev. Raymond Dupree officiating.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to time of service Wednesday at the church.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Garland Brook Mausoleum Chapel with Military Honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Pentecostals of Nashville Building Fund or Brad & Regina Thompson Missionaries to Guatemala.
