Brinegar takes 43rd in 10K at World Championships

Columbus native Michael Brinegar finished 43rd in the Men’s 10K Open Water event that began late Wednesday night and ended early Thursday morning Eastern time at the FINA World Swimming Championships and Aquatics Festival in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Brinegar, a redshirt junior at Indiana University, was with the lead pack for the first two of seven laps before falling back. Earlier on Wednesday, he anchored Team USA to a fourth-place finish in the 4×1,500 Mixed Open Water Relay.

Brinegar plans to compete in the Men’s 1,500 Freestyle Heats at 12:30 a.m. EST Monday, and if he makes it, the 1,500 final at 9 a.m. EST Tuesday. Both of those races will be televised on NBCSports.
