Fire destroys shed on Timbercrest Drive

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters are listing the cause of a fire in an outdoor storage shed Tuesday night as “undetermined.”

Firefighters were sent to 1712 Timbercrest Drive at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a shed on fire, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters arrived within 3 minutes to find the building heavily involved in fire. The 15 foot by 15 foot building was located approximately 20 feet from the residence, Wilson said.

Firefighters deployed a hose line to the rear of the residence and were able to extinguish the blaze within minutes. The flames were confined to the building. The residence did not sustain damage from the fire.

Investigators spoke with the homeowners at the scene. The homeowners told investigators that the storage building was equipped with power. Investigators saw cordless power tool charging stations located near the suspected area of origin, Wilson said.

The building also contained flammable liquids and an assortment of tools. Investigators also found a portable space heater, but said that that device was not plugged in at the time the fire occurred. The building and contents are considered a total loss, Wilson said.

No injuries were reported.
