BOYS DIVING

Locals make finals at regional

JASPER — Two local divers made it to the final round of Tuesday night’s Jasper Diving Regional, but both fell a little short of qualifying for the state finals.

Columbus North senior Cole Wheeler finished 11th with a 353.65 for 11 dives. Wheeler was in 12th place after five dives, when the field was cut to 16, and again after eight dives, when it was cut to 12.

Columbus East freshman Gavin Day finished 12th with a personal-best 348.90. Day was 11th after five dives and 10th after eight dives.

The top eight qualified for this weekend’s state finals.

Meanwhile, Columbus North junior Daniel Utterback in the 200- and 100-yard freestyle, Columbus East senior Dathan Wolf in the 100 backstroke and the North 400 freestyle relay team earned callbacks to the state finals. They will join the Bull Frogs 200 freestyle relay team, which made the state standard in Saturday’s North Sectional, in this weekend’s Boys Swimming State Finals, which begins with the preliminaries on Friday at IUPUI’s Indiana University Natatorium.

Warriors edge Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Scottsburg held Jennings County to 5 of 23 shooting from 3-point range in upsetting the Panthers 52-50.

Carson McNulty led Jennings (14-7) with 13 points. Owen Law scored 10 points, and Keegan Manowitz added nine points and seven assists.

Cougars top Twisters

OLDENBURG — South Decatur trailed 41-39 after three quarters before rallying for a 64-55 victory at Oldenburg Academy.

Hunter Johnson led the Cougars (12-10) with 29 points. Evan Wullenweber scored 18, and Jacob Scruggs added eight.
