Columbus
We hear a lot about our efforts to combat global climate change but nothing about Earth’s population explosion.
It took over 2 million years of human prehistory and history for the human population to reach 1 billion and only 200 years more to grow to 7 billion.
At worldpopulationhistory.org, we learn that in the first 1000 years A.D., Earth’s population grew from 170,060,000 to about 1.7 times what it was 1,000 years earlier. In the next 1,020 years it grew at a rate 23 times its growth rate during the first 1000 years, so that it was 7,830,458,560 as of 2020.
Columbus’ population is now almost five times what it was in 1940. We often hear our local leaders say, “We’ve got to grow”. We have that urge. It is universal. Why?
Population growth has brought mass migration and mass homelessness.
