Jewel Hazel Followell

Jewel Hazel Followell, 93, of Columbus, died at 10:10 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Jewel was born April 21, 1929 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Marlow and Hazel (Asbury) Tomey. She married Jack Wolma on December 1, 1946 and he passed on October 1,1951. She later married Frank Followell on April 16, 1953. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1986.

Jewel was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for many years. Jewel was a former employee of Sapps Bakery. She was still employed and working at McDonald’s here in Columbus. She was proud to have been working there for 25 years. When not working Jewel loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed reading and playing on her IPAD.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Calling will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13th at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hemophilia Foundation through the funeral home.

Survivors include sons; Steven (LeAnn) Followell and Donald Ayers, both of Columbus; daughters, Jackie Sharp and Linda Nelson, both of Columbus, and Phyllis Followell, of Nashville, Indiana; grandchildren, Jamie (Max) Bumbalough, Jeff (Michelle) Sharp, Kelly (Matthew) Sprague, Natalie (Brent) Ogle and Karrie Nelson; several great grandchildren as well as several great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, brothers, Marlow Tomey Jr., Charles Tomey Sr., Franklin Tomey, Dewey Tomey and Robert Tomey; sisters, Celia Fields, Mary Wolma and Virginia Stamps; one great granddaughter, Mary Florence; sons-in-law, Michael Sharp and Allen Nelson.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
