COLUMBUS, INDIANA
On Friday, November 11, 2022, Karen Louise Sorrels (Huckleberry) of East Base Road, Columbus passed away at home at the age of 71.
Karen was born on December 22, 1950, in Salem, Indiana to Dennis and Flora Mae (Nolan) Huckleberry. Karen retired from Cummins after 34 years of service to pursue massage therapy full time. She began her studies of massage therapy in the early 90s and obtained her degree from the Alexandria School of Scientific Therapeutics in Alexandria, Indiana in June 1999. She was a practicing massage therapist for over 20 years in Columbus and Seymour, Indiana. Karen and the Late Jerome Sorrels raised 3 sons together, A.J., Kris, and Timothy.
Karen was a Cub Scout master of Troop 557 when her sons were younger. Karen loved to garden vegetables and beautiful types of flowers which she would share with loved ones. She often grew vegetables that towered over her 5’1 frame. Karen loved to spend time in the kitchen making lasagna, peanut butter fudge, and cheesy meatloaf. Karen was never one to turn down a game of euchre. Karen was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Dennis and her mother, Flora Mae. She is survived by her three sons, A.J (Karen) Sorrels, Kris (Stephanie-Kaye) Sorrels, and Timothy Sorrels; her 3 grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachery, and Magnolia Sorrels; her two sisters, Patricia Bernard and Marilyn Durbin; along with many extended family members. Karen will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her.
A time of visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. In keeping with Karen’s wishes, cremation will take place following the visitation. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
