Tom Covert

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Tom Covert, 71, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 7:23 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Keepsake Village of Columbus.

Tom was born in Columbus, February 20, 1951, the loving son of William T. and Mary J. Greenlee Covert. On June 13, 2005, Tom married Marcia J. Barkes Rexroat; she survives.

Tom served the city of Columbus as a fireman on the Columbus Fire Department from 1978 to 2006. Tom also worked fulltime in maintenance at the Bartholomew County Jail and did seasonal work at Ceraland.

Tom was a former member of the Columbus F.O.P. and the Rolling Hills Bass Masters. An outdoorsman, Tom always enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.

Tom’s life will be cherished by his wife of 17 years, Marcia; children, Tara (Luke) Manley of Hope and Tim Covert and his companion, Denise Eubanks of Seymour; stepdaughter, Mende (Todd) Fox of Columbus; grandchildren, Danielle (Tom) Liedberg, Mackenzie (Preston) Gerbig, Ethan Frazee, Abigail Manley, and Leah Manley; step-grandchildren, Brayden Warfield, Braxton Warfield, and Raelee Warfield; great-grandson, Jax Gerbig; sister, Kathy (Dan) Weaver of The Villages, Florida; nephew, Jeremy Weaver of The Villages, Florida; and niece, Kimberly (Andy) Schifferer of Batavia, Illinois.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Covert; daughter, Tanya Frazee; stepdaughter, Alli Rexroat; and a grandson, Trevor Frazee.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2022, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Andy Kilps will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service is available at barkesweaverglick.com.

A time of visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday and from 12 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. The Columbus Fire Department will provide an honor guard to Tom during the visitation.

Tom will be laid to rest in Section 80 at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hope Moravian Church.
