Beatrice B. Whitsitt

CLIFFORD, INDIANA

Beatrice B. Whitsitt, 93, a resident of Clifford, Indiana, passed from this life at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana.

Mrs. Whitsitt was born in Jackson County, Kentucky, December 9, 1929, the loving daughter of Leander D. and Lydia Bowles Bingham. On March 13, 1953, Beatrice married Stuart S. Whitsitt; he preceded her in death February 21, 1995.

Mrs. Whitsitt was a longtime certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Bartholomew County Hospital and Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Whitsitt was a faithful member of the Hope Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She attended Bible Study Fellowship for ten years and she was a former member of Eastern Star. Family was everything to her and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and working jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Steve Whitsitt Sr. of Clifford and Teresa (Steve) Kamman Wood of Columbus; grandchildren, Molly (Clay) Hollister of Louisville, Kentucky, Ben Kamman of Columbus, and Steven (Megan) Whitsitt Jr. of San Diego, California; great-grandchildren, Mady, Brynn, and Hank Whitsitt, and Eli and Lydia Hollister; sister, Jean Stowell of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Mrs. Whitsitt was preceded in death by her parents, Leander and Lydia Bingham; husband, Stuart; grandson, Specialist Geoffrey A. Whitsitt who died January 13, 2010, while serving our country in Afghanistan; sisters, Dorothy Ward and Flo Henry; and brothers, Willie, Harrison, and Callaway Bingham.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; her son, the Reverend Steven S. Whitsitt Sr. will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Whitsitt will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Garden of Meditation at the Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
