North takes tri meet

Columbus North swept a home tri meet on Tuesday.

The 10th-ranked Bull Dog boys scored 96 points to 65 1/2 for Seymour and 5 1/2 for Brown County. The 13th-ranked North girls scored 114 1/2 to 48 for the Owls and 4 1/2 for the Eagles.

Marieme Niang won the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches) and 100-meter hurdles (17.97 seconds), and Ava Collier took the 400 (1:04.02) and 200 (28.09) to lead the Bull Dog girls. Other individual winners were Lana Wisler in the high jump (5-0), Sierra Newell in the long jump (14-4 1/2), Moana Steele in the shot put (37-8), Julia Kiesler in the 1,600 (5:08.87), Natalie Rohm in the 300 hurdles (52.35) and Lily Baker in the 800 (2:18.83). North also took the 4×800 (9:46.14), 4×100 (54.07) and 4×400 (4:11.08) relays.

Winners for the Bull Dog boys were Liam Phillips in the pole vault (11-6), Jason Knapp in the high jump (6-0), Andrew McLean in the discus (137-11), Liam Milne in the 110 hurdles (15.71) , Nathan Sparks in the 100 (11.81), Will Russell in the 1,600 (4:25.29), Rylan Eisfelder in the 300 hurdles (43.56), Mateo Mendez in the 800 (1:58.08), Nathan Sparks in the 200 (23.94) and Adler Larson in the 3,200 (9:39.34). North also won the 4×800 (8:28.23) and 4×100 (44.58) relays.

East sweeps Shelbyville

Columbus East swept Shelbyville, winning the boys meet 66-61 and the girls contest 109-14.

Megan Tracy won the shot put (31-1 1/2) and discus (111-9), and Emma Gray took the 100 (12.93) and 300 hurdles (50.93) to lead the Olympian girls. Other winners were Jenna Guse in the high jump (4-6), Gabbie Meier in the long jump (16- 3/4), Carly Otte in the 1,600 (5:59.17) and 3,200 (12:58.87), Sophie Glick in the 400 (1:05.97) , Victoria Cuhadar in the 800 (2:42.42) and Mekenzie Cheek in the 200 (28.27). East also captured the 4×400 relay (4:30.07).

Ethan Duncan won the long jump (19-9) and 100 (11.45), and Henrique Carvalho took the 110 hurdles (16.02) and 300 hurdles (42.59) to lead the boys. Jax Siegman took the high jump (5-2), Jacob Guse captured the shot (46-2 1/2) and Jackson Brookes won the 1,600 (5:10.91). The Olympians also took the 4×100 relay (45.52).

Jets finish second

INDIANAPOLIS — Hauser’s boys and girls both finished second in a quad meet at Indianapolis Lutheran. Lutheran won the boys meet with 79 points to 75 for the Jets, 63 for University and 10 for Wisdom Builders. University won the girls meet with 53 points to 45 each for Hauser and Lutheran and 42 for Wisdom Builders.

Alex Bower won the high jump (5-11), and Colin Kistler took the 1,600 (5:03.15) to lead the Jet boys. Hauser also won the 4×800 (8:27.00) and 4×400 (3:56.59) relays/

For the girls, Norah Berkenstock won the 100 (13.46), Reiss Kistler took the 3,200 (19:12.00) and the Jets captured the 4×400 relay (4:36.28).

GIRLS TENNIS

North blanks Floyd

No. 8 Columbus North won four matches in straight sets in rolling to a 5-0 win against No. 16 Floyd Central.

Kathryn Wilson beat Libby Banet 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Aya Saad topped Ella Leitner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Lucy Bergman downed Ivy Hasenour 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (4-0).

North’s Annabelle Sun and Siri Poludasy defeated Abby Slaughter and Zoe Vandehoof 7-6 (9), 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Grace Conner and Nino Akhalata outlasted Sophie Wood and Katherine Fancher 4-6, 6-1, (10-7) at No. 2 doubles.

East edges Bears

SHELBYVILLE — Columbus East pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 singles to claim a 3-2 victory at Shelbyville.

Lauren Degner beat Emma Sandman 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Katie Hong topped Renee Aldridge 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Ruth Federle downed Ella Connolly 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (2-4).

East’s Shruthika Kumar and Katey Rieckers fell to Karlie Lawson and Sophia Asher 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Betsy Hoene and Sara Moran lost to Riley Lee and Sydney Baker 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles down Braves

NASHVILLE — Brown County won four matches in straight sets in a 4-1 win against Indian Creek.

Anna Stogsdill beat Lauren Lewis 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Anna Tipton topped Reese Tunell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Julia Burt downed Kylie Lemmon 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Eagles (3-0). Katie Tipton and Londyn Koester defeated Olivia Perry and Addy Tunell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Brown County’s Ava Kelly and Cady Kemp fell to Lanie Swanson and Alexa Sichting 4-6, 7-6 (5), (10-4) at No. 2 doubles.

BASEBALL

Dragons blank Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County outhit Class 3A No. 8 Silver Creek 3-2, but the Dragons claimed a 2-0 victory.

Austin Byford and Owen Kipper combined on a two-hitter for the Panthers (3-4).

Eagles fall to Chargers

NASHVILLE — North Putnam used a 10-run third inning on its way to a 14-8 Western Indiana Conference win at Brown County.

Jack Sichting went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Sawyer Gore went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Eagles (1-3, 0-1).

Senators top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran came out on the short end of a 3-1 decision against West Washington.

Jackson Trueblood had two hits for the Cougars.

SOFTBALL

Chargers topple Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County was within 4-2 after two innings, but North Putnam pulled away for a 15-3, six-inning WIC victory.

Ava Sanders and Ally Hash each went 2 for 3 for the Eagles (1-3, 0-1).

Tigers top Cougars

GREENSBURG — Triton Central scored 13 times in the first two innings and went on to hand South Decatur a 21-0, five-inning defeat.

Piper Phelps had the lone hit for the Cougars (2-4).

Saints stop Trinity

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran was within 2-1 after two innings, but Indianapolis Lutheran pulled away for an 8-2 win.

Bailey Tabeling and pitcher Grace Lance each had a double for the Cougars (4-3).
