Bull Dogs blank Tigers
LAWRENCEBURG — Eighth-ranked Columbus North mixed up the lineup Friday night, but still posted a 4-0 win at Lawrenceburg.
Kathryn Wilson blanked Elle McMullen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Aya Saad beat Jenna May 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (5-0). Grace Conner and Nino Akhayla moved up from No. 2 doubles to No. 1 doubles and topped Lola Safaviyan and Ella Shelton 6-3, 3-6, (11-9), while Annabelle Sun and Lizzie Bodart defeated Lizzie Caudill and Sarah McAndrew 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
North’s Lison Cloteaux and the Tigers’ Emma Kammeyer were tied 6-5, 6-7 (9), (10-10) when the match was called because of rain.
BASEBALL
Hauser edges Chargers
GREENSBURG — One day after posting an 11-1 win against North Decatur, Hauser needed a three-run rally in the seventh inning Friday to pull out a 12-11 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at North Decatur.
Owen McIntyre went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, Stryker Gill went 3 for 4 and Simeon Wasil went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, Kameron Blair had a double and two RBIs for the Jets (6-2, 4-0). Zayne McCanlis pitched the final two innings to pick up the win.
Cougars top Lancers
EDINBURGH — South Decatur run-ruled Edinburgh for the second time in as many nights, this time an 11-1, five-inning MHC decision on Friday.
Brady Lane threw a one-hitter and went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Cougars (5-1, 4-0). Brock Lane went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Dale Peters went 2 for 4 with a double and Avery Seegers and Colby Rathburn went 2 for 4.
Jared Myers had the hit for the Lancers (1-7, 1-4).
SOFTBALL
Jets fend off Chargers
GREENSBURG — Hauser had a much tougher time than in a 16-2 win against North Decatur a day earlier. The Jets led only 4-3 Friday before scoring four times in the seventh to pull away for an 8-3 MHC win.
Paige McDaniel went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and combined with Reagan Mack on a six-hitter for the Jets (4-2, 3-0). Izzy Brunner went 2 for 3, and Maley Jordan had two RBIs.
Lancers handle Cougars
EDINBURGH — One day after throwing a no-hitter at South Decatur, MacKenzie Bieker threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts Friday to lead Edinburgh to an 11-1, five-inning MHC win against the Cougars.
Bieker also went 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs at the plate for the Lancers (4-5, 2-1). Gracie Crawhorn went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two RBIs, Kenna Streeval had a home run and three RBIs and Alex Streeval added a double and two RBIs.
Molly Eden had the hit for South Decatur (2-6, 2-2). Daisy Martin threw a seven-hitter.
TRACK AND FIELD
East girls win tri
BROWNSTOWN — The Columbus East girls won a tri meet Thursday at Brownstown Central.
The Olympian girls scored 68 points to 59 for Jennings County and 40 for Brownstown. The host Braves edged the Panthers 64 to 63 1/2 in the boys meet, while East was third with 39 1/2.
Megan Tracy won the shot put (34 feet, 6 inches) and discus (106-7) to lead the Olympian girls. Other winners were Emma Gray in the 100 hurdles (16.7 seconds), Sophie Glick in the 400 (1:04.9), Victoria Cuhadar in the 800 (2:34.5) and Chloe Krueger in the 3,200 (13:01.0). East also took the 4×800 (10:47.5) and 4×400 (4:21.8) relays.
Rachael Manning led Jennings with wins in the pole vault (7-6), 100 (13.3) and 200 (27.6). Avery Willhite took the 1,600 (5:57.7), and Sasha Hicks and Avynn Belding tied for first in the high jump (4-8).
Winners for the Panther boys were Evan Sochacki in the pole vault (9-6). Branden Braun in the 100 (11.5), Cole Marksberry in the 300 hurdles (41.3) and Kraedyn Young in the 800 (2:10.8). Jennings also took the 4×800 (8:56.1) and 4×400 (3:36.5) relays and ran a school-record 44.3 in finishing second in the 4×100 relay.
Jacob Guse won the shot (42-6) and discus (128-7) to lead the Olympians. Ethan Duncan took the long jump (19-6 1/4), and Henrique Carvalho captured the 110 hurdles (15.9).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Columbus tops Trojans
Kasey Kelley scored three goals Thursday to lead Columbus to a 9-6 win against Center Grove.
Rylie Boezeman, Liberty Jones and Meghan Ives all added two goals for Columbus. Kate Ellis had an assist.
