Mildred M. Winchester

EDINBURGH

Mildred M. Winchester, 94, of Edinburgh, died at 6:20 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. Mildred was born in Shelbyville, IN on January 17, 1929, to Otis and Minnie Totten Nigh. She married Garnett L. Winchester on May 17, 1952.

Mildred graduated from Moral Township High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. She taught 3rd grade at Edinburgh Elementary School and then retired from Arvin Industries. Her faith was very important to her, she was a proud member of Old Union Christian Church for over 70 years. Mildred was a member of Ladies Aid and Home Economics Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, reading, sewing, gardening, and most of all spending time with her family.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Boston officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday. Mildred will be laid to rest beside her husband Garnett at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Research Foundation in memory of Mildred.

Survivors include her son, Michael L. Winchester of Columbus, IN; daughter, Diane E. Maupin of Centerville, OH; brother, William Nigh of Hollywood, FL; grandchildren, Travis Winchester, Michelle Hepfer, Brent (Hope) Maupin, Brian (Nicole) Maupin, Emily (David) Brown and Bradley Maupin; great-grandchildren, Wolfric Maupin, Elizabeth Maupin, Kara Maupin, Harrison Brown, Mattox Hepfer, and Daisy Brown.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Minnie Nigh; husband, Garnett L. Winchester on January 31, 2019; daughter, Cheryl S. Winchester; brother, Robert Nigh; sister, Helen Lawrence; son-in-law, Gregory Maupin and daughter-in-law, Sandra Winchester.
