Richard L. “Dick” Pitman, M.D., passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023 while at home.
Dick was born May 28, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa, the only son of Roger and Marie Nielsen Pitman.
He earned his medical degree from University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1968 and served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy aboard Polaris submarines until 1973. Dr. Pitman completed his residency in Radiology at University of Michigan and later earned the prestigious honor of becoming a Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR). He continued his work as a Radiologist with Columbus Diagnostic Imaging until his retirement. Water skiing, scuba diving, and photography were some of Dr. Pitman’s favorite hobbies.
Survivors include his children, Jennie Pitman of Indianapolis, Zachary Pitman of Greenwood, and Brooke Pitman of Bishop, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, Joan Birch of Minneapolis, MN.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Chaplain Reeves Flint officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donate Life America and the North Iowa Area Community College Foundation Roger and Marie Pitman Memorial Scholarship.
