Panthers no-hit Jets

NORTH VERNON — Cole Sigler threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs Saturday to lead Jennings County to a 9-0 win against Hauser.

Keegan Manowitz went 3 for 4 with a double for the Panthers (7-13). Ryan Schuck went 2 for 3, and Cole Skinner went 2 for 4.

The Jets (11-6-1) were plagued by nine errors.

Earlier on Saturday, Jennings beat Greensburg 9-7 in the completion of a game that was suspended in the fourth inning on April 14. Schuck went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Austin Byford went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Manowitz went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple.

Eagles fall to Bulldogs

MONROVIA — Monrovia scored seven times in the first inning Saturday and went on to hand Brown County an 11-1 defeat.

Noah Lewis and Logan Weis combined on a seven-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Eagles (3-12).

Trinity downs SV

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran scored twice in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead and held on for a 6-3 win Saturday against Springs Valley.

Jackson Trueblood and Nathan Voelker combined on a three-hitter for the Cougars (10-10). Chase Bode had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Trueblood also had two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Jets sweep Tigers

LAWRENCEBURG — Hauser swept a doubleheader at Lawrenceburg Saturday, winning 4-2 and 8-2.

Paige McDaniel threw a five-hitter in the opener. Hannah Taylor went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, Maley Jordan went 2 for 3 and Izzy Brunner and Kyra Meister each went 2 for 4.

In the second game, Brunner went 3 for 3, Meister went 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs and Madison Hollman went 2 for 4 for the Jets (13-3). McDaniel went 2 for 3 and combined with Reagan Mack on a seven-hitter.

Dragons top Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Class 4A No. 6 New Palestine swept a doubleheader at Jennings County Saturday, winning 5-1 and 13-1 in five innings.

Jillian Brauer went 2 for 3 in the opener. Kenzie Matern went 3 for 3 in the second game for the Panthers (11-11).

BOYS GOLF

North finishes fourth

BLOOMINGTON — No. 13 Columbus North finished fourth and Columbus East tied for seventh out of 15 teams in Saturday’s Bloomington North Invitational at Cascades.

No. 6 Center Grove won the tournament with a 304. No. 1 Westfield finished second at 308, followed by Bloomington North (309), Columbus North (311), Floyd Central (317), Bedford North Lawrence (325) and East and New Albany (326).

Tyler Wilks tied for second individually with a 74 to lead the Bull Dogs. Jack Schiavello added a 78, Brady Schneider had a 79 and Willy Davis and John Merritt each shot 80.

Pierce Arnholt led the Olympians with a 77. Carter Greene carded an 80, Spencer Erfmeier added an 82, Ben Luedeke shot 87 and Jamall Starks had a 90.

Panthers take seventh

BATESVILLE — Jennings County finished seventh put of 12 teams with a 357 in Saturday’s Batesville Invitational at Hillcrest Country Club. Mt. Vernon won with a 320.

Davey Shaw led the Panthers with an 85. Jake Grider carded an 89, Jack George added a 90, Eli Simmons shot 93 and Tanner Stearns had a 98.

GIRLS TENNIS

Tigers best Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the No. 1 singles match, but Lawrenceburg took the other four Saturday to post a 4-1 victory.

Tatum Brown beat Elle McMullen 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (3-10).

Jennings’ Kaydence Lowman fell to Lizzie Caudill 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Jocelyn Valdovinos lost to Emma Kammeyer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Mia Silvey and Gabi Morin fell to Ella Shelton and Sarah McAndrew 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Makenzey Carr and Trina Collins lost to Jenna May and Kelsey Offutt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Panthers take sixth

GREENWOOD — Jennings County’s boys and girls both finished sixth out of eight teams Friday in Greenwood’s Cougar Chase. Greenfield-Central won the boys meet, and Franklin took the girls meet.

Rachael Manning led the Panther girls with a second-place finish in the 200 (26.5) and a fourth in the 100 (13.07). Sasha Hicks took fourth in the high jump (4-10), Halle Franks was fourth in the 3,200 (12:47.69) and Jennings finished fourth in the 4×800 (10:49.59), 4×200 (2:00.74) and 4×400 (4:30.93) relays.

For the boys, Kraedyn Young finished third in the 800 (2:04.44) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:36.15), Branden Braun took fourth in the 100 (11.47) and Will Barnes was fourth in the 300 hurdles (43.02). The Panthers finished third in the 4×200 (1:34.23) and 4×400 (3:34.53) relays and fourth in the 4×800 relay (8:54.18).
