Joseph H. Daily

Joseph H. Daily was born March 14, 1933, son of Coy and Mary Hager Daily. He died at home on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 6:28 a.m.

He graduated from Columbus High School in 1951.

He started driving a tractor for his Dad at the age of 7. Joseph, along with his Dad and brother, started Daily Feed and Grain. While he loved farming, he always had a passion for trucking. In 1972, he started his own trucking company, J.H. Daily Trucking. He retired from Daily Feed and Grain in 1994 and continued his trucking business until 2007.

He married Joann Sebastian March 27, 1955. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2013.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he served in many capacities from youth group leader to driving the church bus. He regularly served communion and took communion to nursing homes, the hospital and to shut ins. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #343 since 1956. He was also a 4-H participant, supporter and served three terms on the Bartholomew County Fair Board.

Joe enjoyed trucking, traveling and was always bound to meet someone new. He was known for his “Keep on the Sunny Side” demeanor. He always had a smile on his face. As an enduring symbol of Christmas for others to enjoy, Joe fabricated and mounted the beautiful star that rests atop the Daily Feed and Grain elevator. The star can be seen for miles and continues to be a source of joy for many each Christmas season.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joann Daily Poffenberger.

Survivors include his loving and caring companion, Jean Fogle; brother, Harold Daily; son Steven Joseph (Jeaney) Daily, daughters Karen Daily Kenny and Laura (Eric) Daily Fritz; grandchildren, Sarah Kenny, Kyle (Courtney) Daily, Amie (Cristian) Delgado, Justin Miller and Kate (Marques) Johnson; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Mark (Teresa) Fogle.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with David Burnett officiating.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and 9:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Garland Brook Cemetery.
