Larry Allen Taylor, 73, of Columbus, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023. He was born on April 17, 1950, to the late Granvel and Ruby Taylor in Columbus, Indiana. Larry married Anetia McKay in 2010.

Larry retired from Cummins after 36 years of service. His life revolved around his love for his family, friends, and fitness. He loved spending quality time with his entire family, but especially his sons. He regularly attended Columbus Bible Church. Larry was a proud 1968 graduate of Columbus High School, where he excelled and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. His passion for fitness also included weightlifting. Larry was involved in the formation of the Columbus Barbell Club. A few of his major accomplishments were being crowned Mr. Columbus two times and being a participant in the Mr. Indiana bodybuilding competitions in the 1980s. With his love for fitness, Larry truly enjoyed mentoring others in their own fitness journeys. Larry also enjoyed softball, as he played for many years in various leagues. Larry would spend his spare time rebuilding and restoring Jeep Wranglers and helping others with their Jeep projects. One of Larry’s favorite pastimes was spoiling his dog, Sunny. Larry also had a great sense of humor, which his family and friends will deeply miss.

Larry is survived by his wife, Anetia, of Columbus; his sons, Shane Taylor of Columbus, Ohio, and Rocky Taylor of Indianapolis; his stepdaughters Nicole (Clint) Forrest and Natalie (Cory) Hamm, both of Columbus; his grandchildren, Nicholas Forrest, Zachary Forrest, Alexis Grider, Tianna Grider, Jakob Grider, Jaxson Forrest, and Harper Forrest. Other survivors include his brothers, Ron (Laura) Taylor, David (Melinda) Taylor, Carl (Vicki Bode) Turner, Charles (Nora) Turner, his sister, Patricia Osborne, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jim Turner, and sisters, Corrine Duckworth and Pauline Elam.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the Bible Church of Columbus with Rev. Dave Marvin and Rev. Jerry Day Sr. officiating. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church located at 3010 10th St., Columbus, IN. Inurnment will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home or online to our local Foundation for Youth or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
