COLUMBUS
Roy Eugene “Wuzzy” Burton, 79, of Columbus, passed away at 1:49 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Willow Crossing Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Roy was born February 25, 1944, the son of Bud and Frances Jessie Burton. On July 30, 1961, he married Sherry Bryant.
Wuzzy worked at the Eagles Lodge #741 for 22 years as a janitor. He liked to play poker and dress up as Santa Clause during the holiday season for family and friends. Watching NASCAR. Old westerns and gameshows was one of his favorite things to do in his free time. Wuzzy will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sherry; daughter, Debbie Hatchett; son, Keith (Candi) Burton, both of Columbus; five grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Rickey Lee Burton, Kevin Eugene Burton; brothers, Bubby Burton, J.R. Burton and sister, Alice Faye Burton.
In keeping with his request, cremation will take place and no service is planned at this time.
