Three suspects are in custody on a variety of drug and prostitution charges after an investigation involving prostitution that was reportedly taking place in a Columbus home. A 4-year-old child at the house also was the victim of neglect, authorities say.

The Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Columbus Police Department Intelligence Led Policing Unit started an investigation into Mariel V. Hautman, 32, and Corey S. Singer, 48, both of 3001 Streamside Drive, Columbus, after identifying them as being allegedly involved in prostitution in Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The investigation was launched after the Columbus Police Department was made aware of an advertisement posted on an escort website.

During the course of the investigation, JNET established probable cause to arrest Hautman and Singer for prostitution, Harris said. Additionally, Singer was determined to be a sex offender who was not in compliance with the sex offender registry. JNET obtained a search warrant to search Hautman and Singer’s residence in the 3000 block Streamside Drive. Upon execution of the search warrant, probable cause was established to place Chad Singer, 55, of 1916 Dixell St., Davenport, Iowa, under arrest as well.

During the search of the residence, JNET located several bags of methamphetamine (totaling approximately 45 grams), packaging material, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia, Harris said.

The officers also located a 4-year-old child inside a bedroom that was locked from the outside. Harris said the Department of Child Services was contacted and the 4-year old was placed in the custody of a family member. Harris said the child was not harmed. No other information was provided about the child.

All three suspects were transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and remanded with a 48-hour hold without bond on the following preliminary charges:

Mariel Hautman: Level 2 felony dealing in methamphetamine, Level 5 felony neglect of a dependent, Level 6 felony maintaining a common nuisance, and Class A misdemeanor prostitution.

Corey Singer: Level 2 felony dealing in methamphetamine, Level 6 felony counts of maintaining a common nuisance and failure to register as a sex offender, and Class A misdemeanor prostitution.

Chad Singer: Class B misdemeanor visiting a common nuisance.

Harris said the investigation is ongoing.
