gBETA opens its application process

Start-ups in the Columbus and Bloomington area are invited to apply for a seven-week accelerator taking place this fall.

Applications are currently being accepted for the gBETA Bloomington-Columbus 2023 fall program. According to Logan White with gener8tor, a startup accelerator that runs gBETA, applications close on Sept. 8, and the program kicks off on Sept. 21.

More information and a link to apply is available at gener8tor.com/gbeta/bloomington-columbus. Applicants with questions can schedule a time to talk with White at calendly.com/loganwhite/gbeta-office-hours.

White described gBETA as “a free, seven-week, accelerator for companies with local roots.” The program will be conducted in a hybrid format, with a mix of virtual and in-person activities.

According to gener8tor, gBETA runs multiple times a year in cities across the country. Up to five companies “from a range of verticals” are selected to participate in each program.

Participants will receive:

  • Individualized coaching and mentorship from gener8tor on company growth and investor readiness
  • Weekly “Lunch & Learns” which feature topics relevant to startups and are also open to the broader community
  • Weekly “Mentor Swarms,” which are speed-dating style meetings with five mentors
  • Investor and accelerator pitches
  • $1 million-plus in deals and perks from vendors such as IBM Cloud, Rackspace, Amazon, Paypal, Zendesk, Hubspot and Microsoft
  • Ongoing post-program support and gener8tor community involvement and offerings

According to gener8tor, gBETA Bloomington-Columbus is an accelerator for “early-stage companies” with local roots in Indiana.

White said she will be selecting two companies from Bloomington, two from Columbus and one from the surrounding area to participate in the program.

Applicants should also be willing to commit time in and outside of the program and “ready to grow,” according to gener8tor.

“gBETA companies range from ‘I have an idea’ to ‘I have significant revenue,’” gener8tor’s website states. “Although most gBETA companies are post-product, pre-scale, as long as you are ready to make use of coaching on customer growth and investor readiness, mentor meetings, and investor and accelerator pitches, we’re ready for you!”

Once applications close, the program director will notify applicants who have been selected for interviews. There are typically one or two rounds of interviews, and interviewees will need to have a pitch prepared.

The director will then follow up to let finalists know if they have been selected.
