Gino Prescott // Columbus North junior football player

Prescott carried 11 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns Friday to help lead the Bull Dogs to a 41-0 win at Columbus East.

His performance last week: “I feel like there’s always room to improve, but I feel like that was one of the best games I’ve played.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just sleep.”

Favorite drink: “Mountain Dew”

Favorite food: “Mac and cheese”

Favorite class: “US History”

Favorite sports team: “San Francisco 49ers and Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(49ers wide receiver) Deebo Samuel”

Role model: “I’ve always looked up to my uncle (former Columbus East and IU wide receiver) Duwyce Wilson”

Best advice: “Keep my head up. Don’t ever count reps. Just do your job.”

Athletics goal: “To make it far and go to college.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d probably go to California to visit my uncle (Wilson).”

Lilly VanNess // Brown County junior golfer

Lilly VanNess

VanNess won medalist honors with a 78 Saturday at Forest Park to lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the Western Indiana Conference Tournament. Earlier in the week, she won medalist honors with a 41 in a 220-225 win against Monrovia at Deer Creek.

Her performance last week: “I kind of focused on moving forward from shot to shot and forgetting about a bad shot I might have had, and just getting a more feel for the game recently has definitely helped a lot. I’ve been playing the game I know I can play, and it’s been working out.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually will go and practice with my dad (co-coach Ben VanNess), and he’ll give me any last tips or motivation before I go out and play.”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “Math.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(LPGA golfer) Nelly Korda.”

Role model: “My dad (Ben VanNess).”

Best advice: “Don’t think about the past. Just move to the future.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Hawaii. I’ve never been there, and it seems pretty cool.”
