Shasta J. Smiley

EDINBURGH

Shasta Jean Smiley, 79, of Flat Rock, Indiana passed away peacefully to her new home with the Lord on August 24, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Shasta was born in Columbus, Indiana on April 3, 1944 to Hass E. Burton and Goldie L. Heitz Burton. She married Larry L. Smiley on January 15, 1970.

Shasta was retired from Leer Corporation in Ediburgh where she worked for 33 years.

Shasta was a fun loving person who loved to laugh and have a good time. Her favorite pastime was playing Bingo with her friends. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.

Shasta’s goodwill toward others was a special attribute that she possessed. She was kind and was willing to help anyone she could if they needed it.

Although Shasta was not affiliated with any one church, she was of the Christian faith and loved the Lord.

She will forever be loved and missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Larry Smiley; her children, Jerry L. Perry (Anita) of Columbus, Indiana, Della Jo McIntosh of Plainfield, Indiana, Andrew L. Perry of Edinburgh, Indiana, Darron L. Smiley of Flat Rock, Indiana, and Michael L. Smiley of Edinburgh, Indiana; ten grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her siblings, Kathy (Kevin) Stubbifield of Columbus, Indiana, Tamara (Gary) Evans of Speedwell, Tennessee, and Jane Haddock of Franklin, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Christine Burton of Columbus, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Geena M. Murray; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson; and her brothers, Jim R. Burton, Tom Burton, and William T. Burton.

In keeping with Shasta’s request, cremation will take place and no service is planned at this time.
