3A No. 7 Bull Dogs post victory against Falcons

Christian Cardoso

Columbus North picked up two very early goals against Perry Meridian Tuesday night at the Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

The Falcons got a goal in the second half, but the two early goals from the Class 3A No. 7 Bull Dogs were the difference in a 3-1 boys soccer victory.

Following the conclusion of the JV game, the start of the varsity match was delayed 30 minutes due to lightning in the area.

The lightning delay didn’t stop North (6-1-2), which scored the first goal of the night when the Falcons were called for a penalty in the box in the fifth minute. Christian Cardoso took the kick, and it the ball found the net.

A couple of minutes later, Misaki Takemoto found Cardoso an open goal to double the lead to 2-0.

It became a stalemate for the teams until the Bull Dogs found their third goal of the half. In the 39th minute, Aidan Whitley took a couple of touches and delivered a pass to Nico Gotoh on the right side, and his boot at the near post sneaked into the net for the 3-0 halftime lead.

Perry Meridian prevented the shutout when Bawi Bik Sang got one back in the 49th minute when his shot rolled from the right side and into the back of the net to make it 3-1. That score held for the remaining 31 minutes.

The Bull Dogs faces another tough test on the schedule as they travel to Carmel to take on the Greyhounds Friday night.
