COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man led Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and Columbus police on a chase which led to his arrest.

The chase ensued after a tip that the wanted suspect, later identified as Chawn Coomer, 38, Columbus, was driving a silver Kia passenger car in the area of North U.S. 31 and Random Road at 7:12 p.m. Wednesday and had active warrants for his arrest.

Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle, however Coomer refused to stop, said Sgt. Dane Duke, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The vehicle pursuit continued into Columbus at which point officers from the Columbus Police Department began to assist deputies, Duke said. The suspect vehicle came to a stop at a residence on McCullough Lane where Coomer exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Coomer was quickly apprehended in the back yard of the residence, Duke said.

Columbus police confirmed that a Taser was used one time while taking Coomer into custody after the suspect refused to place one of his arms behind his back when he was being handcuffed.

Coomer was booked into the jail on the following charges, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, body attachments and a Bartholomew County felony warrant, Duke said.
Coomer remains in custody at the Bartholomew County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to jail officials.
