Ellen Pettit Nash

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Ellen Pettit Nash, of Columbus, Indiana, went to be with Jesus at 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, after a long fight of carcinoid cancer at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Ellen was born Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1965, in Seymour Indiana to the late Billy Rosewell Ault and Mildred “Joyce” Adams Piercefield of Columbus, Indiana. Ellen was a proud little sister to her brother, Dr. Bradley Ault, of Buffalo, New York, who survives. She is also survived by two stepsiblings of Columbus, Indiana, Jack “Andy” (Lisa) Piercefield, and Mary (Bob) Jarrard.

Ellen married Terril Ivan “Terry” Pettit, of Columbus, Indiana May 20, 1989, and together they had two beautiful children, Aeriel (Aaron) Richardson of Columbus, Indiana and Caleb Pettit also of Columbus, Indiana, all of whom survive.

Ellen was a 1984 graduate of Columbus North High School and a 1988 graduate from IU Bloomington where she majored in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. After college, Ellen worked as a store manager at Elder-Beerman in FairOaks Mall in Columbus, Indiana. After many years of working retail, Ellen began her career in human resources and management. Ellen worked as an office manager for 14 years at Hanner Financial Services Inc. in Columbus, Indiana. After leaving Hanner Financial after many years, her final career led her to work as a recruiting coordinator in human resources at Cummins. Last but not least, she enjoyed every bit of her “more fun” job working at 450 North Brewing Company where she worked as a waitress for six years. No matter where Ellen’s career was, one thing remained, she was the most hardworking and selfless individual to everyone she came in contact with.

Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling especially to the beach, shopping, IU basketball/football games, and being the number one cheerleader at sporting events for her children, nieces, and nephews. Ellen was an avid lover of all animals, surviving are her two rescues, Piper and Pebbles. Ellen was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as an usher and volunteered during VBS and other church events. She was also a member of the Columbus Area Emmaus Community. Ellen was a strong Christian filled woman, and never doubted her faith during the many years of battling cancer.

On December 12, 2020, Ellen married David Mark Thomas Nash of Westport, Indiana. Ellen then gained some additional stepchildren, Cassandra Nash of Westport, Indiana, Victoria (Isaiah) Walker of North Vernon, Indiana, Prudence (Chris) Watson of Morgantown, Indiana, and Christopher Hutchinson of Phoenix, Arizona.

Ellen was a vibrant soul, one who literally lit up the room wherever she entered. She was the person you could call any time of day and she would drop whatever she was doing to be there. Not only was she the best hug giver, but she also gave the best advice. And right up until she became less able to get around and do the things she enjoyed, Ellen was full of joy and always eager to lend a helping hand no matter what the problem was. Ellen was love, light, and joy personified.

Ellen is preceded in death by her father, Billy R. Ault, stepfathers, Robert D. “Bob” Hendry and Jack Piercefield; stepmother, Audrey Ault Silvers; stepsister, Beth Piercefield Turner; paternal grandparents, Eunice and Jesse Ault of Seymour, Indiana; and maternal grandparents, Virginia and Charles Morgan of Louisville, Kentucky.

Ellen’s celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 3-7 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation.
