Panther runners second, Olympians sixth in HHC meet

BEDFORD — Jennings County finished second and Columbus East sixth in both the boys and girls sides at Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference cross-country meet.

Eighth-ranked Floyd Central won the boys meet with 17 points to 63 for the Panthers. The Olympians finished with 162.

Floyd Central also won the girls meet with 24 points, while Jennings edged host Bedford North Lawrence 83-86 for second. East scored 120 points.

Kraedyn Young led the Panther boys with a fourth-place finish in 16 minutes, 23.05 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Aaron Lewis took ninth in 17:28.05, while Dawson Leak was 13th (17:48.25), Lain Ernsted 14th (17:50.39), Brock Maschino 23rd (18:28.32), Zachary Wahlman 28th (18:52.15) and Eli Lucas 30th (18:55.13).

Jackson Brookes finished 18th in 17:58.78 to lead the Olympians. Austin Menefee took 29th in 18:54.08, while Chance Knepp was 40th (19:31.23), Zander Weatherford 54th (21:17.12), Zeke Weatherford 55th (21:21.66), Chris Gilroy 56th (21:55.62) and Asher Stevens 63rd (24:44.28).

Molly Wathen led the Jennings girls with an 11th-place finish in 21:42.63. Avery Willhite took 15th in 22:09.04, while Alana Watts was 19th (22:29.43), Haley Vogel 21st (22:52.48), Addie Otte 25th O23:09.67), Isla Stevens 31st (23:38.17) and Kambrie Maschino 35th I23:56.11.

Jami Porter led East with a 14th-place finish in 21:58.83. Amelia Fay took 27th in 23:15.80, while Victoria Cuhadar was 29th (23:34.89), Abby Collins 32nd (23:38.38), Megumi Going 34th (23:47.48), Hayden Carothers 36th (24:04.08) and Madison Swartzentruber 39th (24:49.62).
