Republic staff receives awards at 2023 Hoosier State Press Association Journalism Conference

INDIANAPOLIS — Republic staff members received 11 awards at the 55th annual Hoosier State Press Association Journalism Conference and Awards Luncheon Friday in Indianapolis.

The Republic competes in the category of the largest newspapers in Indiana, including dailies with more than 6,000 circulation.

First place awards went to:

The Republic staff for coverage of the 2022 Mill Race Marathon for sports event coverage.

The Republic staff for headline writing for this series of headlines, “Oh Hoppy Day,” on a craft beer story, “Making a Beer Run,” for a story about the official beer for the marathon and “Her Lips Are Sealed,” for a story about a ventriloquist performer.

Second place awards went to

Republic Editor Julie McClure for coverage of the Irwin Block fire in the deadline news category.

Republic Opinion Page editor Dave Stafford for deadline news coverage of the I-65 killer.

Republic Sports Editor Ted Schultz for best sports news or feature coverage for an Ironman feature.
