HANOVER — Hauser had the lead and all the momentum after dominating the third set Thursday night.
Unfortunately for the Jets, they couldn’t carry that over into the fourth or fifth sets, and North Decatur rallied for a 25-17, 19-25, 6-25, 25-21, 15-12 win in the opening round of the Southwestern (Hanover) Sectional.
“Just ball control issues and silly mistakes,” Hauser coach Jeff Case said. “We just gave up a lot of points. They kept pressure on us and took advantage of our mistakes. The effort was there. We just needed to make some more plays tonight.”
Kenze Bostic led the Jets (19-13) with 17 kills and six blocks. Kayden Miller recorded 35 assists, Haylin Campbell notched 21 digs and Mattie Foster served four aces.
Also for Hauser, Aniston Bostic tallied 12 kills, one assist, two blocks, 16 digs and three aces. Foster collected seven kills and 17 digs, Kenze Bostic added one assist, Maley Jordan had two blocks and Miller served two aces.
The Jets had beaten North Decatur in five sets last month on their way to finishing unbeaten in the Mid-Hoosier Conference.
“It was up and down all year,” Case said. “Tonight was kind of a microcosm. The team really came together late. I was really proud of how we worked through some issues.”
