COLUMBUS, Ind. — ASAP (Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress) will sponsor local vendors who provide sober-friendly beverages at select community events in Bartholomew County as part of the organization’s Rethinking Wellness initiative.
Recent data reveals that nearly 80% of adults in Bartholomew County are not excessive drinkers, consciously choosing to either abstain from alcohol consumption or restrict their intake. ASAP’s goal is to ensure that tasty, well-crafted refreshments are readily available for these individuals whose choices may be influenced by a variety of factors including medical considerations, religious beliefs, personal wellness goals, or a journey towards recovery from substance misuse.
ASAP’s inaugural sponsored vendor will be “Swine and Dine,” which will be featured at The Commons during Turning Point’s “Not-So Family Feud” Fundraiser on Oct. 19th. Hosted by Mickey Kim and Alan Trisler, the event features friendly competition among six local celebrity teams, raising funds for Turning Point programming and services.

“Turning Point is proud to partner with ASAP in this endeavor to create a more inclusive and holistic approach to community events. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and celebrated,” said Whittney Loyd, Turning Point president.
ASAP encourages all local organizers to prioritize the inclusion of sober-friendly beverage options at their events. If you are interested in sponsoring vendors, you can access ASAP’s event beverage sponsor form on the organization’s website.

Excessive drinking is defined as binge drinking: 4 or more drinks at a time for women; 5 or more for men on a single occasion and/or heavy drinking: 8 or more drinks per week for women; 15 or more drinks per week for men.
