Prep sports notebook: North boys tennis players named All-State

Columbus North’s Hank Lin, Anvay Atram and Amrit Kar received more accolades following their respective runner-up finishes in Saturday’s Boys Tennis Singles and Doubles State Finals.

Lin headlines the First-Team All-State in singles, and Atram and Kar headline the First-Team All-State in doubles.

North’s Parth Shah and Austin Clark were named honorable mention in singles. Michael Crossman and Yoki Murabayashi were named honorable mention in doubles.

Bull Dogs, Olympian named All-District

Two boys and two girls from Columbus have been named to the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association All-District teams.

Columbus North’s Aidan Whitley and Christian Cardoso were named to the All-District 4 Boys team. Columbus East’s Martin Simon Rodriguez and North’s Nico Gotoh and Misaki Takemoto were named honorable mention.

North’s Avery Baker and East’s Nadia Harris were named to the All-District 4 Girls squad.

North runners make Academic All-State

Several Columbus North runners have been named to this year’s Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Academic All-State teams.

For the girls, Macy Eaton, Kenzie Meyer and Kenzie Pendleton were named to the First-Team. Lydia Weed was honorable mention.

For the boys, Amit Gangadhara, Frankie Polyak, Cole Stevens and Neal White were named to the First-Team. Rylan Hottell and Fisher Mantooth were honorable mention.

Locals selected IVCA All-Academic

The Indiana Volleyball Coaches Association has released its 2023 All-Academic awards.

Brown County’s Reva Shugars, Cadence Kemp and Marqi Satter and Trinity Lutheran’s Drew Hubbard and Kiley Zabel won the Gold Award.

Brown County’s Ava Kelly won the Silver Award.

Whitley earns Exemplary Behavior Report

Columbus North senior soccer player Aidan Whitley received an Exemplary Behavior Report from the IHSAA following Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Cathedral in the Columbus East Semistate.

One of the referees, Adam Gagnon, wrote, “Aidan was very respectful about asking questions on calls. After game was over in a 2-1 loss in semistate, he came right over to all four officials and told us, ‘Good job.’ Very mature for a high school student after a tough loss.”

Hauser athletics hosting Trick-or-Treat

Hauser athletics will be hosting Trick-or-Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 in the Hauser Fieldhouse.

Candy will be available. Kids are welcome to wear their costumes and will have the opportunity to meet Hauser athletes.
