CPD arrests wanted man after standoff

Wilson

A Columbus man with a parole violation warrant for his arrest was taken into custody after a standoff on Saturday evening, the Columbus Police Department reported.

At about 5:30 p.m., CPD officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Randy H. Wilson, 31, at his residence in the 1500 block of Lafayette Avenue. Wilson was wanted on an Indiana parole warrant for criminal confinement.

When officers approached the residence, they heard a male’s voice and could smell marijuana. When a female occupant later identified as Heather R. Clarkson, 44, opened the door of the home, the odor of marijuana became even stronger. The officers applied for a search warrant for the house and activated the Columbus Police Department SWAT team due to Wilson’s lengthy criminal history.

Members of the CPD crisis negotiation team also responded to scene and attempted to get Wilson to exit the home. Shortly after 9:00 p.m., Wilson exited the front door of the residence and surrendered to SWAT officers. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he was remanded for the Indiana Parole Warrant.

Clarkson was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana.
