Local man faces multiple charges after barricading himself inside an apartment after a report of a disturbance

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested on multiple charges after he was accused of barricading himself inside an apartment after a disturbance on Saturday evening.

At approximately 11:35 p.m., CPD officers responded to an apartment in the 1000
block of Ashford Park Place in regards to a disturbance. The responding officers were advised that Joseph L. McCarty, 34, of Columbus, battered a woman at the apartment and used a couch to barricade the bedroom door, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The woman was able to escape from the apartment and law enforcement was contacted after a second disturbance began outside in the parking lot.

Officers attempted to make contact with McCarty inside the apartment, however, he refused to answer the door. The officers applied for and later received a search warrant for the residence. The officers served the warrant early Sunday morning and located McCarty hiding in a bedroom that was partially barricaded, Harris said.
