Northwestern upsets top-ranked Boilers in OT

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern handed top-ranked Purdue its first loss of the season Friday, a 92-88 overtime setback in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams.

Boo Buie scored 31 points to lead the Wildcats (6-1, 1-0), offsetting a 35-point, 14-rebound performance from the Boilermakers’ Zach Edey.

Fletcher Loyer scored 17 points, while Braden Smith had 12 and Lance Jones added 10 for Purdue (7-1, 0-1).

The Boilermakers led 40-32 at halftime., and the game was tied 76-76 at the end of regulation.
