Club Olympia, Donner swim teams compete

Club Olympia Swim Team traveled to Fishers last weekend for the Annual Santa Claus Classic meet hosted by the Fishers Area Swim Team (FAST).

Club Olympia first competed in the FAST Santa Classic meet eight years ago with 14 athletes. In the 2023 Classic, nearly 40 swimmers competed, earning Club Olympia a sixth-place finish out of 14 teams from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Illinois.

Leading the way for Club Olympia were Aahan Gupta, first-place high point winner in the 9-10-year-old boys division; Arash Thokade, first-place high point winner for the 8-and-under boys; and Myra Jaryal, second-place high points for the 8U girls.

Gupta finished second in the 100-yard freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 200 IM; third in the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Thokade took first in the 25 breaststroke; second in the 25 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 100 individual medley; third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 25 freestyle and 25 butterfly while claiming two other top 10 finishes. Jaryal was second in the 25 breaststroke, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly; third in the 50 backstroke and 100 IM; fourth in the 25 freestyle, with two additional top-15 finishes.

Max Tempest claimed five top 10 finishes in the 8U boys division. In the 9-10 boys, Chad Pendleton finished third in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 200 IM and fifth in the 50 breaststroke and added two additional top-10s. Vivan Shah added five top-10 finishes, and Sarthak Deshmukh claimed six top-15 finishes.

For the 11-12 girls, Camila Mejia Murguia took second in the 50 butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle, with top-10 finishes in five other events. Lexi Miller placed fourth in her first-ever 1,650 (mile) distance event and added three top-10 finishes. Rebeca Mejia Murguia had three top-10 finishes, and Aashka Shah and Lily Pendleton both achieved top-20 finishes.

For the 11-12 boys, Shreyan Kulkarni placed fifth in the 1,650 (mile) in a limited events weekend, while Xavier Zhang added four top-10 finishes. Arjun Agarkar, Adir Joshi and Daxton Wolf each secured top-20 finishes.

Josh Pendleton, Connelly Furnish and Misha Machavariani competed in a limited schedule for the weekend. Pendleton claimed first place in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly and second in the 400 IM, with one other top-10 finish. Furnish placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 1,650 (mile), with three additional top-10 finishes. Machavariani added three top-20 finishes.

In relays, the 11-12 girls teams consisting of Aashka Shah, Rebeca and Camila Mejia Murguia, Lily Pendleton and Lexi Miller placed fifth in the 200 medley relay and fourth in the 200 freestyle relay. The 11-12 boys relay teams consisting of Shreyan Kulkarni, Daxton Wolf, Xavier Zhang, Adir Joshi, Arjun Agarkar, Rick Singh, Chris Suo and Noah Plunkett claimed seventh in the 200 medley relay and both fourth- and ninth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle relay.

Myra Jaryal, Aahan Ingole, Neeti Guarathi and Eva Rayomand placed ninth in the 10U girls 200 freestyle relay. Vivan Shah, Chad Pendleton, Aahan Gupta, Aarash Thokade, and Sarthak Deshmukh took second in the 10U boys 200 medley relay and third in the 200 freestyle relay. Max Tempest, Vihaan Gallege, Joey Elkalla and Christopher Plunkett were 11th.

Donner swims at Seymour

Last weekend, 47 Donner Swim Club athletes participated in the Seymour Winter Invitational.

Of 279 total swims, Donner swimmers achieved 152 personal-best times and 38 new Indiana state divisional cuts.

Some of the new divisional cuts included Levi Bense in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle; Caroline Crawford in the 100 breaststroke; Gavin Ley in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke; Eli McIntier in the 50 freestyle; Emily Meek in the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM; Cade Paulsen in the 50 breaststroke and 200 IM and Ritivik Prithiviraj in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.

Donner is in action this weekend at the Ohio River Challenge in Louisville.

BROOMBALL

Hansons remain unbeaten

Matt Street scored five goals as Hansons stayed atop the Columbus Broomball League with a 9-2 win against Jennings County. Max Warr had two goals, and Matt Psota and Keith Henry each added one for Hansons (5-0). Kyle Hunterman netted both goals for Jennings (1-2-2).

Monsters of Rock beat Toyota Tsunamis 6-3. Ben Eckhart, Zach Henderson and Kyle Roshak all scored two goals for Monsters (4-1). Greg McNealy, Jimmy Robertson and Collin Graeber had the goals for Tsunamis (0-4-1).

Our Name Is Earl topped CCA 3-1. Darren Eckerly, Ellie Lutz and Noah Marsh netted goals for Earl (2-3). Shawn Bauman had the goal for CCA (1-3-1).

BASKETBALL

Panther teams take losses

The Jennings County seventh-grade JV basketball team fell to Southwestern (Hanover) 56-26 on Thursday. Jonah Kreutzjans led the Panthers (2-6) with 11 points.

On Monday, the Jennings County seventh-and eighth-grade JV boys were swept by Lutheran Central. The Panther seventh-graders fell 28-25, and the eighth-graders lost 37-14.

Kreutzjans led the seventh-graders with 14 points. Lance Kear and Rodney Benham each scored four for the eighth-graders (2-5).
