College sports notebook: Schiavello, Ferguson shine for Wheaton

CHICAGO — Nick Schiavello, a senior from Columbus North, scored 16 points and led Wheaton with seven rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in 35 minutes of action Saturday in a 59-52 loss at University of Chicago.

Ty Ferguson, a freshman from North, added three points, two rebounds and a steal and led the Thunder with five assists in 19 minutes.

Wheaton (2-8) plays in the College of Wooster (Ohio) Kiwanis Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Barker helps lead Franklin to win

NORTH MANCHESTER — Lauren Barker scored 10 points and led Franklin with four assists, two steals and a blocked shot in 23 minutes Saturday in a 78-58 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Manchester.

Barker, a freshman from Columbus North, added one rebound.

The Grizzlies (6-2, 3-1) host Cincinnati-Clermont on Tuesday.

Horn helps DePauw to victory

Cooper Horn had five points, seven rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes Sunday to help DePauw to a 103-79 win against Illinois Tech.

Horn, a freshman from Columbus North, had one rebound in Saturday’s 78-71 win at Franklin.

DePauw (7-4) plays in Transylvania’s Don Lane Classic on Thursday and Friday.

Barker nets 4 points, 4 rebounds

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Blake Barker scored four points and grabbed four rebounds Sunday in Army’s 78-74 overtime loss to Stony Brook.

Barker, a junior from Columbus North, also had an assist and a steal in 22 minutes of action.

The Golden Knights (2-9) visit UTSA on Thursday.

Rooks beats ranked opponent

BLOOMINGTON — Graham Rooks scored his biggest win of the season in Indiana’s 25-15 wrestling victory against Central Michigan.

The 13th-ranked Rooks, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, won a 2-1 decision against No. 16 Corbyn Munson at 149 pounds.

Cayden Rooks, a fifth-year senior from East, fell to Vince Perez by an 11-8 decision.

The Hoosiers will compete in Lehigh’s Sheridan Invitational on Friday.

Combest ranked No. 3 in D-II

UIndy’s Dawson Combest is ranked No. 3 in the nation at 157 pounds in the NCAA Division II Men’s Coaches Rankings.

Combest, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, is a three-time All-American who was injured most of last season. He is planning to make his return on Jan. 5.
