The Columbus Moose Lodge and First Financial Bank held a fundraiser for Just Friends on Dec. 12 at the Lodge. The fundraiser raised more than $4,000 for the cause.

“We chose to donate to Just Friends because they don’t get as much funding as other places,” explained Brian Holbrook, administrator at the Columbus Moose Lodge.

A meal of smoked brisket, ham and sides was served for the evening, and all money raised went toward the fundraiser. Holbrook estimated about 125 people purchased food or donated money.

Just Friends Adult Day Services provides home and community services for aging adults with disabilities and special needs and their families in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, Jennings and Johnson counties.

Part of the donation came from Richards Elementary fifth-grader Wade Petro, whose name was drawn to select the organization that would receive the funds from a recent wine and canvas event he attended with his grandfather. Petro decided to donate $532 from the fundraiser to Just Friends.

“I wanted to help a place that doesn’t get as much money as other places. After I delivered the check and saw all the people they help, I knew I made the right choice,” Petro said.
