Brian’s picks

(Elvis)

For those willing to venture beyond Bartholomew County until the early winter local calendar stirs a bit more, here are a couple ideas for later in the month:

* If you’re looking for King-sized entertainment, you can plan ahead to catch the Elvis Tribute Artist Spectacular scheduled at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Murat Egyptian Room at Old National Centre, 502 N. New Jersey St, in Indianapolis. Sentiment rests knee-deep in the fact that Presley’s last concert ever was at the now-gone Market Square Arena in Indianapolis (see photo). Information and tickets at $35 and up: https://www.murategyptianroom.com/events/the-elvis-tribute-artist-spectacular-14-january-2024/.

* The Broadway touring version of the classic “To Kill a Mockingbird” comes to Clowes Memorial Hall, 4602 Sunset Ave. in Indianapolis beginning Jan. 23. The production, told through the eyes of a 13-year-old character, relays the story of a Black man accused of rape in pre-civil rights era Alabama and the noble lawyer who defends him. * You still can catch “Wonka” at 3:15, 6:01 and 8:30 p.m. today at YES Cinema, 328 Jackson St. in downtown Columbus. The online summary: “Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—is proof that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy, anything is possible.” Information and tickets: yescinema.org.
