Candidate filing for the May 7 primary opened Wednesday, with six people filing for local offices, according to the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office.
Bartholomew County Commissioner Larry Kleinhenz will face a primary challenge. Kleinhenz, as well as Rick D. Miller, filed paperwork to run for the Republican nomination for the Bartholomew County Commissioner District 1 seat.
Incumbent Republican Tony London filed to run for another term as Bartholomew County Commissioner for District 3.
Tom Barrett, who is currently a deputy coroner, filed to run for the Republican nomination for Bartholomew County Coroner. Current coroner Clayton Nolting is term limited from running for another consecutive four-year term.
Jake Fitzsimmons filed to run for the Republican nomination for Bartholomew County surveyor. The county’s current surveyor is E.R. Gray III.
John Walstad filed to run for the GOP nomination for Hope Town Council, Ward 2.
Additionally, Tami Hines and DeWayne Hines filed to be at-large Republican state convention delegates, and Phyllis Apple and DeWayne Hines filed to be Republican precinct committee members.
No Democrats filed to run in the primary on Wednesday, which was the first day that candidates could file a declaration of candidacy for a major party primary nomination.
Candidate filing ends Feb. 9, according to the Indiana Election Division.
Indiana’s presidential primary will be held May 7, and the general election will be Nov. 5.
