East girls take 4th, Jennings 6th in HHC meet

NEW ALBANY — Columbus East finished fourth in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference girls swimming and diving meet at New Albany.

Floyd Central won the title with 379 points to 228 for Jeffersonville, 208 for Seymour and 178 for the Olympians. Jennings County finished sixth with 97.

Connelly Furnish won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 1.15 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:20.12, and Gabbie Meier captured the diving compeition with 433.85 points to lead East.

Ali Trueblood finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.68). Kira VanValkenburg, Meier, Abby Proffitt and Connelly Furnish teamed to take second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:48.74); and VanValkenburg, Cassidy Furnish, Meier and Connelly Furnish were second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:01.49).

Avery Witt

Jennings’ Avery Witt won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.83. Tatum Brown finished fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:50.22).
