Two more people have joined the race for a congressional seat covering part of Bartholomew County after three-term incumbent Rep. Greg Pence, R-Indiana, announced last week that he would not seek another term.
Cynthia “Cinde” Wirth has filed to run for the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District, which covers parts of Bartholomew, Johnson, Shelby and Hancock counties and southern portions of Indianapolis.
Wirth was the Democratic nominee for the seat in 2020 but lost to Pence in the general election.
Nathan R. Swain of Greensburg also has filed for the Republican nomination for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District, joining state Rep. Mike Speedy, R-Indiana, who filed last week.
At the same time, filings for local offices have continued, with another person joining the race for the Republican nomination for three Bartholomew County Council at-large seats that are up for grabs in this year’s election.
Marcus Daniel Speer has filed to run for the GOP nomination for one of the at-large seats, joining John Prohaska and Kim Bennett, who had filed last week, according to the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office.
Voters will choose up to three candidates for the open seats.
So far, the three incumbents, Republicans Evelyn Pence, Matt Miller and Bill Lentz, have yet to file for reelection. The deadline to file is Feb. 9.
Additionally, Josh Burbrink has filed for the Democratic nomination for the Bartholomew County Commissioners District 1 seat, and Jerry Bragg has filed to run for the GOP nomination for Hope Town Council, Ward 3, county election officials said.
