LOUISVILLE — Louisville’s Mateo Mendez finished 11th in the 800 meters in the Bellarmine Open.

Mendez, a freshman from Columbus North, ran 1 minute, 59.20 seconds.

The Cardinals will host the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Guthrie takes 18th in 3,000 at IU invite

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana’s Clayton Guthrie finished 18th in the men’s 3,000 meters Saturday in the Indiana Invitational.

Guthrie, a freshman from Columbus North, ran a personal-best 8 minutes, 52.29 seconds.

The Hoosiers will visit Louisville’s PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational and Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Schiavello, Ferguson lead Wheaton

Nick Schiavello recorded 15 points and three rebounds and led Wheaton with eight assists and two blocked shots Wednesday in a team-high 39 minutes Wednesday in a 78-77 CCIW loss to Illinois Wesleyan.

Ty Ferguson, a freshman from Columbus North, added three points, two rebounds and two assists and led the Thunder with three steals in 18 minutes.

On Saturday, Schiavello, a senior from North, had 10 points and an assist and led Wheaton with eight rebounds in a team-high 38 minutes in a 61-47 CCIW loss at North Central (Illinois). Ferguson added two assists in 16 minutes.

The Thunder (4-14, 3-6) visit Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday.

Barker helps lead Franklin to victory

Lauren Barker recorded 13 points, four rebounds and a blocked shot and led Franklin with six assists and two steals Saturday in a team-high 38 minutes in a 94-75 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Anderson.
