Prep sports notebook: Panthers named All-HHC in girls basketball

Several local girls basketball players received All-Hoosier Hills Conference honors.

Jennings County seniors Juliann Woodard and Alivia Elmore and sophomore Mollie Ernstes received first-team honors.

Columbus East seniors Madelyn Poe and Jenna Guse and Panthers junior Madelyn McIntosh were named honorable mention.

Woodard, Elmore named to HBCA All-Star team

Jennings County seniors Juliann Woodard and Alivia Elmore were named to the Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All-Star team for the East Region that will take on the West Region All-Stars.

The event will take place on April 7 at Washington High School.

Borkhardt makes committment

Columbus East senior Blake Borkhardt announced his committment to play baseball at Jackson College, which is located in Michigan.

The Jets have three other former Olympians playing there in Harry Major, Ethan Ianni and Logan Christophel.

Gymnastics sectional begins Friday

The Columbus North and Columbus East gymnastics teams will begin their postseason journey starting with the Franklin Central Sectional at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The regional competition will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 1, also at Franklin Central. The state finals will be held at Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie on March 9.

Boys hoops games rescheduled

Columbus North’s boys basketball game scheduled for Saturday at Terre Haute South that was scheduled for Dec. 20 has been postponed to Saturday. However, there is a time change. The JV game will begin at 4 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 5:30 p.m.

Also, Hauser’s boys basketball home game against Waldron that was scheduled for Jan. 19 has been postponed to Tuesday. The JV game will begin at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
