Josh Gonsior, who led Columbus East to boys soccer sectional titles in his first two of four seasons at the helm, has announced his resignation.

Gonsior, who previously had coached at Hauser, spent 11 years as an assistant with the Olympians under former coach Brad Barber. Gonsior took over the program in 2020 and guided them to sectional wins in 2020 and 2021.

“After a long period of soul searching, I’ve made the decision that I believe is right for me at this time,” Gonsior said in a news release. “Part of my decision to step back is that I have a lot of pokers in a lot of different fires and I can tell that I am spreading myself thin. The time feels right to transition to the next phase of my life.”

Gonsior, who will remain as a teacher at East, is the fourth East fall sports head coach to resign since the end of the season, joining Matt Malinsky (boys tennis), Ryan Burke (boys cross-country) and Ellyn McIntosh (volleyball). Alison Eagleman was hired last week to replace McIntosh as head volleyball coach.
