Grace Lodhi won the female 44kg cadet black belt division earlier this month at the Canada Taekwondo Open in Vancouver.
Lodhi, 12, who trains at Total Taekwondo in Columbus, was competing in the cadet (ages 12-14) division for the first time. She beat athletes from the US, Canada and Australia, some of which were on their country’s national teams.
Last weekend, Lodhi competed in the US Open in Reno, Nevada.
BOWLING
Million sets record in city tournament
Clint Million bowled a city record 879 three game series while winning the city doubles tournament with Billy Gray.
Million opened with a 279 game, followed by back-to-back 300 games, to break his own city record by one pin. He and Gray won both scratch and handicap doubles events.
Chris Jones won the singles scratch event. Jamie Ross took the singles handicap event.
BASKETBALL
Hawks win IBCA state crown
The Columbus Hawks 12-and-under girls beat the Noble Whitley Warriors 27-26 last weekend to win the ICBA state championship.
The Hawks also had won the Ohio River Homeschool Conference Tournament. They will play in the upcoming NCHC regional tournament.
BROOMBALL
Hansons take top seed for playoffs
The playoffs are set in the Columbus Broomball League, which will begin on Sunday.
No. 3 seed Jennings County BC (4-6-2) will play No. 6 seed Toyota Tsunamis (0-11-1) at 4:30 p.m., and No. 4 seed CCA (4-7-1) will meet No. 5 seed Our Name Is Earl (4-8) at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round. No. 2 seed Monsters of Rock (10-2) will face the winner of the first game at 6:30 p.m., and No. 1 seed Hansons (12-0) will play the winner of the second game at 7:30 p.m.
Hansons finished the regular season Sunday with a 7-0 shutout of Our Name Is Earl. Max Warr netted three goals, while Ryan Jepson scored two, and Matt Psota and Keith Henry each added one.
Jennings County BC topped Toyota Tsunamis 7-0 behind three goals from Kyle Hunteman, two from Darien Castetter and one each from Deagan Kaiser and Mark Latta.
Monsters of Rock won by forfeit against CCA.
SPEED SKATING
Tan wins division for Full Throttle
Full Throttle Speed Skating competed in the NorthBurke Short Track Open last weekend in Northbrook, Illinois. The event was a regional ability meet, featuring skaters from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and Washington D.C.

Ethan Tan won the his division’s overall competition for 255m, 340m and 425m distances.
Wyatt Kiefer finished second overall for his division at 500m, 777m and 1,000m. Edward Meir took fourth overall in his division at 255m, 340m and 425m.
Meredith Schwab placed fourth overall for her division at 333m, 500m and 777m. Quinten Fortner was sixth overall in his division for 333m, 500m and 777m.
